How to reduce a signature image below 20 KB
Prepare a clear signature image, set the size target and compare the final pixels and file size with the current form requirements.
In this guide
Read the current upload requirements
Check the application form or its current official instructions for accepted format, width, height and maximum file size. A 20 KB limit alone does not tell you the required dimensions or background. TechSathi sample presets are editable starting points, not official exam specifications.
Keep the original signature image. Use a clear photograph or scan with the full signature visible and as little empty border as practical. Avoid a source where the pen strokes are blurred or already heavily compressed.
Crop before compressing
If a large empty area surrounds the signature, use Crop image . Enter a rectangle that keeps every stroke, including marks near the edges. The crop tool uses pixel offsets and dimensions, so inspect the source size before choosing the rectangle.
Use Resize image when the form specifies exact pixel dimensions. Avoid stretching the signature into a different shape. Review the resulting image before continuing to the file-size step.
Set the maximum file size
Open Signature under 20 KB , sign in and choose a supported JPG, PNG or WEBP image. The tool starts with a 20 KB target; check that the visible “Maximum file size (KB)” value matches your actual requirement.
Set any required pixel dimensions and create the result. Target-size compression may reduce dimensions to meet the size limit, so entering a dimension is not a substitute for checking the final output. If a form requires a different maximum, use the appropriate value or Signature under 50 KB .
Check both size and legibility
Download the result and inspect its actual file size and pixel dimensions. View the signature at its normal display size and zoom in to check thin lines. Make sure the whole signature remains visible and that the file format is accepted by the destination form.
When the target is too aggressive, start again from a clearer original with less empty border. Repeatedly recompressing a poor result can make it less readable. Keep the version that meets the stated requirements with acceptable clarity.
If the form still rejects the image
Read the form's exact error. It may refer to the format, dimensions, minimum size or naming rules rather than the maximum size alone. Compare those requirements with the downloaded file instead of changing several settings blindly.
No tool can guarantee acceptance by every exam or application portal. Requirements can vary between forms and application cycles. Use the current notice as the authority and review the upload preview where the destination provides one.
Keep your result private
A signature is personal information. Upload only the image you need, avoid including unrelated documents and download the checked result promptly. TechSathi generated downloads are private to your account and expire after 24 hours.
